Police are appealing for witnesses after a 17-year old girl was robbed in Grove Road, Grays.

At 10.30pm on Wednesday, September 1, a suspect rode past the victim on a pedal cycle and grabbed her handbag. After a struggle, the suspect snatched the bag and its contents, worth an estimated £150 and rode off. The victim received minor scratches and reddening to her arms and hands.

Investigating officer, Dc Rachel Martin, said: “Luckily the victim only suffered a few scratches, but it still would have been a very frightening experience for this young woman.

“This is quite a residential area, and the victim screamed quite loudly to raise the alarm, so we want to speak to anyone that may have heard this. Also, there was a black man in the area at the time on a bike, and he may be a vital witness, so I would urge him to come forward to help us.”

The suspect was a white man, aged between 25-27-years old, 5’8”, of a skinny build, shirt dark hair, facial stubble, dark rings under his eyes, wearing a dark top and tracksuit bottoms and had a dark t-shirt underneath.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Grays CID on 0300 333 4444 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
