Chadwell Land First Punches Of The Season

COACHES Chris Okoh, Scot Johnston, Jim Rafter and Steve Rogan travelled to Welwyn Garden City Amateur Boxing Club’s open show on Saturday 25th September alongside boxers Shadreck Nyamunokora, Matt McCarthy and Hollie-Martin Wood.

Unfortunately Shadreck 22yrs 75kg was unable to box as his opponent weighed in on the day at 79kg.

Matt McCarthy 17yrs 63kg had his first bout since joining Chadwell St Mary at the end of last season. Matt’s dedication to the sport with his strict diet and hard training certainly paid off. McCarthy boxed really well and outpointed his heavier opponent gaining him a unanimous points decision win by landing several heavy blows and a succession of perfectly timed upper cuts on his opponent Jack Butcher of Ferry Street A.B.C. KIngs Lynn.

First time female boxer Hollie Martin Wood 17yrs 55kg over-powered her opponent Abbie Newby of Rumbles ABC in Kent.

Hollie’s strong jab landed on target again and again and she clearly was far too strong for her opponent.

Hollie never got to experience being cornered as her opponents corner through the towel in just before the end of the first round.

Hollie’s first bout gained her, as well as Chadwell a first round stoppage.

Chadwell St Mary A.B.C. hold their first show of the season on Saturday 23rd October 2010 at the Gateway Academy School in Tilbury.

C.S.M hope to be able to match most of their carded boxers including Great Britain squad member and Olympic hopeful Nina Smith. “Number One in Great Britain at 54kg” Michael Maloney; New York Gold medalist Jake “Brainz” Wise; “University Champion 2010 Jack Healy plus the “Mighty” Matt McCarthy, the “talented” Kieran Redding as well as Gateway’s very own student Levi Lee as well as many more up and coming boxers.
