Wimbledon 0 v 48 T-Birds

The T-Birds began their new Season’s campaign away at League newcomers Wimbledon.

Following last week’s fine win over Trojans from the league above, the T-birds were in confidant mood when they arrived in the driving rain that always seems to accompany a trip to Wimbledon.

The home side were quickly into their stride, their huge pack immediately taking control and depriving the dangerous looking Thurrock backs of quality ball.

An early injury in the first scrum to hooker Cherelle Alphonse left Thurrock hanging on for the late arrival of a player stuck on the M4

After 20 minutes of nip and tuck Ts reshuffled the pack and immediately took control.

With their own ball now secure and the weather improving, Ts were able to release the backs and a pair of trys 2 minutes apart brought a healthy lead of 0-12.

Wimbledon dug in, but Ts managed another fine backs move before half time to bring the score to 0-17.

With new Fly Half Emily Scott now settled in and running the game well, Ts applied the pressure to a resurgent Wimbledon for 10 minutes before playing a 5 minute purple patch of rugby that brought 3 more trys and the bonus point to put the game beyond all doubt.

Ts then eased off, but 2 more trys including a fine solo effort from Full Back Sally Appleton running back a loose kick brought the final score to 0-48.
