Lewes 2 v 1 Thurrock

A disappointing Thurrock exited this years FA Cup on their second visit of the season to the Dripping Pan, an unsuccessful visit earlier in the season in a league match must have put the home side with a psychological advantage.

A game that flowed from end to end but in which both teams created few opportunities to score and despite the some promising build up play it was hard to see where a goal would come from.

In a less than dynamic first half the two sides were only separated by a 17th minute header from Tom Murphy. The goal came from a Thurrock attack that broke down without effect and put Lewes driving forward with Kane Wills on the right flank, his cross was just the right pace and found Murphy in space for a free header, which he planted into the corner of the net with Keeper Joe Woolley easily beaten.

In the second half Thurrock were having to push forward for an equaliser which inevitably left them exposed at the back, thankfully Lewes failed to capitalise on this until the 72nd minute.

Once again it was Thurrock in attack when the move broke down when a free kick was conceded, Lewes quickly moved into attack and it was another fine strike by Tom Murphy that extended Lewes lead. Murphy collected the ball just inside the Thurrock box and he blasted a right footed drive into the top corner of the net.

With just three minutes remaining a move started and finished by Matt Bodkin reduced the deficit, Bodkin started it with a fine individual run which gave an opportunity to Paul Olima, Lewes failed to clear and as the ball was crossed back into the box a spectacular overhead shot from Bodkin found the back found the back of the net.

Thurrock rallied during the remaining minutes of added time and looked they started to looked dangerous but time ran out to quickly to end this years FA cup run.
