Tilbury set to be thrown out of cup

TILBURY FC are set to be thrown out of the Ryman League’s Championship Manager Cup for playing an ineligible player in the win against Romford two weeks ago.

Dockers came from behind to beat Romford 2-1 and thought they had earned another derby tie in the third round when paired with Aveley in the draw.

However, the club played recent signing from Grays, Glen Kendall in the tie on October 12, and he had already played for his previous club, Grays Athletic in the first round of the competition, Grays going out to Waltham Forest on September 15.

The Ryman League Board are set to ratify Tilbury’s expulsion at a board meeting on Thursday evening.

Two seasons ago Tilbury went on to win the trophy after surviving a probe into using an ineligible player in their 3-0 fourth round win against Ramsgate.

Danny Jones appeared for just the last two minutes of the tie despite having previously played for Great Wakering in the competition. Dockers were initially thrown out but reinstated on appeal, but this issue this time appears cut and dried.
