A GRAYS man who failed to work with Thurrock Council’s Environmental Protection officers faces paying fines and costs of over £900.
John Binns, of Hathaway Road, admitted breaching a notice served on him under the Prevention of Damage by Pests Act 1949 by letter at Grays Magistrate’s Court on Thursday (3 February).
Environmental Protection officers wrote to and visited Binns’ property on numerous occasions. Investigating officers were following up on local residents’ complaints of rats, mice, and a large accumulation of rubbish at the property.
Binns failed to engage with the officers and ignored the formal notice served on him.
The case was heard in his absence and magistrates ordered that he pay a £150 fine, £795 in costs to the council and a £15 victim surcharge.
