Essex road policing officers stopped and checked 32 commercial vehicles in Thurrock this week as part of an operation to rid the county’s roads of dangerous and poorly-driven lorries and vans.
The checks, carried out under Operation Mermaid, the nationwide campaign to improve road safety, were held at Moto Services off the M25 on Thursday, February 17, 2011.
Examiners from the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) also took part in the operation.
Four mechanical offences were discovered and two vehicles were seized for having no insurance.
A total of 106 driver hours infringement were discovered and three prohibitions were issued to prevent drivers travelling any further.
A further six motoring offences, including no tax or MOT, were discovered and will be dealt with by summons.
Fines and deposits totalling £520 were taken.
