World of Sofas goes into administration

THURROCK-based World of Sofas has gone into administration.

The Lakeside Retail Park store remains open but two stores including one in Aberdeen have closed.

Last year YT reported that World of Sofas were the subject of unfair trading allegations, as they were alleged to be responsible for offering customers false promotion prices and incorrectly stating when special offers are due to finish.

World of Sofas was founded in 2009. The founders of collapsed retail chain Land of Leather, Paul Briant, Steve Dowdall and Peter Ling, launched a new furniture retail business under the World of Sofas guise.

YT understands that the chain is now operating under a different structure after the owners set up a new trading company, Riverview Furniture.

The new company was incorporated on January 24 2011 and is named on the World of Sofas’ website as the principal trading business. World of Sofas Ltd went into administration on 4 February through London accountancy firm Berley, who say that the business has been sold to a group of individuals ’similar’ to those who ran World of Sofas.
