GOVERNORS at Chafford Hundred Campus last night voted for the school to join the Harris Federation of schools and become a Harris Academy.
The Harris Federation was founded by Lord Harris of Peckham who founded Thurrock-based company Carpetright.
The news will see the school join the long line of educational establishments in the borough that have voted to break away from the local education authority (LEA) and become an academy.
The news comes after a bitter political struggle between the school lauded last year as the most improved school in the United Kingdom and an LEA that has seen its power base eroded.
Further news and reaction to follow.
