Report for Bulphan WI
35 members and 30 guests celebrated Bulphan WI’s 82nd birthday by dressing in grass skirts, leis, and even coconut bras. Bulphan Village Hall was transformed into a Hawaiian island, 8 members chose their desert island discs, the guests were asked to tell us which book and which luxury they would take to the island, we sipped Mai Tai and Blue Hawaiian cocktails and listened to Jon Coles’ beautiful piano-playing. All the food had a tropical island theme and we enjoyed singing along to past hits like Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini, and Show me the way to Amarillo.
Next month, our quiz team will be off to Billericay to represent us in the Essex Inter-Institute quiz, and the rest of us will debate 2 resolutions: mega-farms, and the closure of local libraries. We’ll also have a speaker from SARC (Sexual Assault Referral Clinic), which is a new joint initiative between the NHS and the police.
