THE TILBURY Riverside Project (TRP) has issued a plea to local businesses to support the traditional Christmas Lights and Fayre in Tilbury.
TRP has organised the Christmas lights for over ten years but the withdrawal of funding from local community forums has left this year’s lights in doubt.
They’ve organised an appeal to local shops and businesses to sign up to contribute to the Lights fund and financially support the Christmas Lights and Fayre. For a small amount per month, local businesses will get a poster to put up to show their support and other commercial advantages like free advertising in local community magazines.
June Brown, local community activist and TRP Executive Committee member, said:
“The Tilbury Christmas Lights and Fayre is a real highlight of the calendar for people in Tilbury. It’s a time for everyone in the community to come together and celebrate. It would be a terrible shame if we weren’t able to continue it this year.
We’ve always been strongly supported by local businesses like Winstones, Classic Hair and Clipso amongst others, and I’m really pleased that Leanne has agreed to support our appeal and hope there will be many more to come.”
Leanne Knight, owner of Sandwiches by Sue on Montreal Road said, “I’m delighted to be able to support the lights appeal. The Lights and Fayre celebration is brilliant for the area and helps new local businesses like mine.”
