National Carers’ Week starts on Monday, 13 June, and Thurrock’s Carers’ Centre is marking the occasion in right-royal style.
On the Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons the centre, in Cromwell Road will be showing The King’s Speech film on a large screen in the hall for service users and their carers.
A programme of events is being held to celebrate the week and to offer carers help and advice. These include:
Monday, 13 June; 11am to 1pm Sandra Miller, Thurrock Council Direct Payments Specialist, talks on personalised budgets; 1pm to 2pm Strawberry Cream Teas; 2pm to 3pm Beryl Navti, Pharmacist Specialist, talks on medication, side effects.
Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 15 June: as part of the afternoon “cinema experience”, carers can leave the person they care for to be looked after by trained staff while they have a break for the afternoon, or if they prefer, they can stay with them. 10.30 am to 4.30 pm both days and a buffet lunch is available (£3 per person) between noon and 1pm.
Thursday, 16 June: an open Carers UK Coffee morning, lunchtime fish and chips, followed by a quiz; 10am to 4pm.
Friday, 17 June: 10am to 1pm, arts and crafts taster sessions — tea, coffee, and cakes served throughout; 7pm (for 7.30pm start) to 10pm, Quiz Night, £6 per person including a fish/chicken and Chips or vegetarian supper.
