MP poses question on Brownfield sites

Jackie Doyle Price

“To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government what powers Natural England has to impose planning conditions on brownfield sites; and if he will make a statement.

Bob Neill (Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Communities and Local Government; Bromley and Chislehurst, Conservative)

“Natural England has no powers to impose conditions on planning consents as it does not determine planning applications. It does, however, have an important advisory role within the planning system and is a statutory consultee for development plans, environmental impact assessments, strategic environmental assessment and planning applications that are likely to impact upon its particular interests.

“In this capacity it may, where appropriate, seek to mitigate impacts on, or to enhance, the natural environment through the use of planning conditions”.
