16:45hrs: The fire was fully extinguished by 16:29hrs. Crews used four hose reel jets and two main jets to tackle the fire and two water shuttles to ensure they had a water at the scene. A two pump relief remain in place as cooling operations continue.
A full investigation will be carried out to establish the cause of the fire.
Assistant Divisional Officer Eddie Brennan, Officer in charge, said: “The fire started in a workshop and spread to some nearby unoccupied static homes.
“There were a number of small LPG tanks, some of which exploded, and one large tank which crews did an excellent job of protecting. Had the fire reached that large tank this could have been a far worse incident but firefighters worked very hard to protect that risk and make sure it was safe.
“Once the tank was safe we were able to get on top of the fire fairly quickly. We were hampered by issues with water supplies throughout but we used two water shuttles which made sure we had enough water to tackle the fire on multiple fronts.”
