PAUL VAUGHAN’S Tilbury produced the shock of the day as they beat local rivals Brentwood Town 2-0 at Chadfields.
The Dockers outfought and out-thought Brentwood with some canny play as Gary Henty and Jack West gave the team the three points on the opening day of the season.
West scored through a low hard drive and Henty, an unstoppable shot on the edge of the area.
Speaking to YT after the game, boss Paul Vaughan said: “We played a 4-5-1 system that we have tried in the pre-seasons. We are comfortable with it and it worked.
“The result may be a surprise to many but not to us. We are working hard and I am determined to get as high as possible in the league.
“It is nice tonight to see us in the play off places but it is only one game. The test comes on Tuesday at Enfield that are always very stern opponents.
