Cop petition set to fall on deaf ears

THE PETITION organised by residents, councillors and community leaders to save popular local bobby Andy Lawrence looks like it is going to fall on deaf ears.

The petition is set to be handed to Essex Chief Constable James McCardle-Baker at a meeting of the full council tonight (Wednesday).

But in a statement to YT, a top police boss has made it abundantly clear that their decision is final.

Chief Insp Alan Cotgrove said: “Every officer’s role is currently being reviewed as part of the Reform programme ahead of the implementation of the force’s new Operational Policing ‘Blueprint’.

“In some cases, officers will be redeployed into posts that are best matched to their qualifications and experience, and Pc Andy Lawrence is no different to any other officer in this respect.

“We would like to reassure residents that there will still be a wealth of local knowledge and experience within the South Ockendon, Aveley and Belhus neighbourhood policing teams, and that officers based there will conduct themselves with as much dedication and enthusiasm that has been displayed in the past.”
