Thurrock 1 Truro City 1

Bill Robinson reports from Ship Lane….

A satisfying point for Thurrock when they may have hoped for three, but with points being very hard to come by any point at this time is welcomed.

Lee Boylan had two opportunities to open the scoring for the home side, first on 20 minutes after some excellent build up play from Dean Cracknell and Steve Ferguson who put Boylan through only to see his shot hit the bar and away for a goal kick.

Just a minute later again Boylan’s aim was again to high, after receiving the ball from Dean Cracknell on the edge of the 18 yard area his shot sailed high over the bar.

The visitors opened the scoring perhaps against the run of play in the 30th minute when the ball was played into the Thurrock box and despite plenty of attempts to clear the ball fell to Barry Hayles who volley home from close range.

Just on the stroke of half time Truro came close to extending their lead when a run down the left by Scott Walker allowed him to side foot into the path of Stewart Yetton and his first time left foot shot struck the bar and away to safety.

HT 0-1

Thurrock made two changes at the break replacing Partridge and Burridge with Glenn Poole and Danny Hockton, initially Thurrock looked the better side and had the greater possession but just could not create the goal opportunities.

The game died during the second half as Truro started to defend their lead, but on 77 minutes Ben Bowditch made the keeper earn his money when he got his head onto a fine in swinging corner and power headed a shot that was well saved by Tim Sandercombe.

Then with only five minutes remaining Bowditch finally got the ball past the keeper, as a cross came over Danny Hockton headed towards goal and it was Ben Bowditch who beat the keeper to the ball to head home from close range.

Thurrock nearly snatched victory with the last kick of the game a free kick from Glenn Poole was floated over and an unmarked Danny Hockton just failed to get his header on target.
