A NEW scheme to help people in Tilbury has been launched.
The Volunteer Involvement Programme (VIP) was launched by the One Community Development Trust at Dock Road, Tilbury.
The programme will work with 50 adults to help them develop their skills and confidence through volunteering, mentoring and life coaching.
Yewande Kannike, chairman of the Trust, said: “We believe a strong community starts with individuals who can see they have something to offer.
“The VIP will give an opportunity to support, encourage, challenge and inspire people to strengthen their skills, gain confidence, get active in the community and release their potential.”
The scheme has been funded with a grant from the National Lottery Awards for All and will work with volunteers from the Tilbury St Chads, Tilbury Riverside and Grays Riverside wards, which are among the 10 per cent of the most deprived areas in England.
The Trust’s community shop is based at 134 Dock Road, and is open from Monday to Friday between 9.30am to 1.30pm. It offers English improvement classes, help with finding jobs and careers advice.
