FOUR generations of Arthur and Diana Clarke’s family joined Davy Down trustees, councillors and officers in the planting of an oak tree beside Stifford Pumping Station. It was a bitter sweet occasion for Diana as she spoke fondly of how fitting it was that we were planting an oak.
Thurrock Council had donated the tree in recognition of Arthur’s contribution over 45 years to the Council and the wider community
Diana urged her family to keep an eye on it and watch it grow just as Arthur had watched his family grow.
Diana Hale,Chair of Davy Down, John Kent, leader of Thurrock Council and Sally, Arthur’s daughter said a few words as they added soil around the 10 year old sapling.
Two grandson’s Charlie Patterson and Ryan O’Neill completed the task and the lovely sunny afternoon ended with champagne for all.
