Birthday celebrations for Thameside Theatre

Yes this Saturday it’s a gala night for the Thameside! Performing and display groups from Thurrock Arts Council are combining this Saturday 29th October in an evening variety show and an all day exhibition to celebrate the 40th birthday of the Thameside Theatre in Orsett Road Grays and also the 50th birthday of Thurrock Arts Council. The acts for the one off show starting at 7.30 include performances by the Gang Show, Thurrock Golden Voices, Courts Players reading for the Writer’s Circle, The Aveley and Newham Brass Band, Thurrock Youth Theatre, Thurrock Thameside Musical Society, Impetuous Kinship and Courts Players.

It’s an evening of song, music and comedy and the tickets cost £6 and for that modest price you will also get a glass of Bubbly and a slice of Birthday cake in the foyer after the show! The evening will be hosted by John Scowen, Chairman of Thurrock Arts Council, well known local actor and drama festival adjudicator along with some vaguely familiar time travelling companions who should turn up as well! John will also be assisted by the familiar professional voiceover tones of Mike Jones.

During the day at the Thameside there will be a display by some non performance societies. On the ground floor there is the week long Thurrock Art Society exhibition, and between 1-2pm this Saturday the Grays Town Band will be playing in the foyer as well.

On the first floor gallery by the Museum will be more displays by the Thurrock Family History Group, the Local History Society, the Davy Down Project, Thurrock Numismatics Society and the Thurrock Antiques and Collector’s club. They will display all day so go along and have a browse into what they do. These are not all of the many member groups of Thurrock Arts Council who are assisted by a grant from Thurrock Council. Not only is the Thameside 40 years old this year but Thurrock Arts Council is celebrating its 50th Birthday and that’s why the groups are making it a double celebration! Come along and have a variety filled evening!
