Assault on brave Stanford pensioner by burglars after she tries to detain them

DETECTIVES have appealed for information after a burglary in Stanford le Hope in which an elderly woman was assaulted.

Two men broke into a house at Prospect Avenue at about 2.40pm on Friday November 11, 2011.

They were disturbed by the victim who tried to stop one of the men from leaving but he kicked her on the leg, causing bruising. The men left the house empty-handed and were last seen heading towards Ruskin Road.

Investigating officer Pc Paul Gutteridge said that the men were both white and aged about 19 or 20.

One was about 6ft tall, well built, had short dark hair and was wearing a light grey tracksuit top and bottoms.

The second man was about 5ft 5in, of slight build, had short dark hair and was wearing a matching navy blue tracksuit top and bottoms.
