Bill Robinson reports from the Beveree..……..

An important fixture for both clubs languishing near or in the relegation zone so a real battling six pointer game was expected.

The opening quarter showed signs of nervousness as both teams looked to keep a clean sheet in the opening exchanges.

The game flowed end to end with both keepers having to be alert as free kicks and corners rained into both goal mouths but without any real danger as both defences did well to contain the attacks

Thurrock were beginning to look the more dangerous on the break exploiting the gaps in the Hampton defence and on 28 minutes Lee Boylan took advantage when a defensive header from James White but Boylan on a run and from just inside the penalty area he struck a low right footed shot that left the keeper Craig Ross stranded as the ball hit the back of the net.

Boylan nearly added a second five minutes later when he rattled the cross bar from 20 yards out with Drew Broughton just failing to get to the rebound.

HT 0-1

The second half saw the home side driving forward looking to get back on level terms and the game looked like a frenetic cup match with both teams desperate to win.

Hampton should have equalized in the 53rd minute when striker Joel Ledgister found space and time just outside the six yard box but his shot was easily saved by David Hughes.

On the hour Lee Boylan had a similar chance for Thurrock when he tan onto a through ball but this time his shot was just wide of the far post,

Thurrock extended their lead in the 74th minute when another long ball through the centre helped on by Jamie Guy found Lee Boylan with just the keeper to beat from 18 yards and he cleverly planted the ball wide of the keeper and into the back of the net.

The game in the latter stages seemed to be with Thurrock as they held on for three valuable points.
