THE OCKENDON ACADEMY successfully moved its Bid for a ‘Studio School as a school within the Academy’ to the final stage.
Mrs Barbara King, Principal of The Academy was delighted at being 1 of only 14 schools nationally presenting their unique vision for young people in Thurrock to The Department of Education.
The case is simple as no other school in the local or neighbouring area is driving this agenda in this way to combine employability skills and academic performance to meet employer demand and need for a skilled workforce says Mrs King.
The Academy would be the nearest opportunity for those young people in Thurrock, Essex and Outer London with the ambition to learn and work in this exciting, enterprising and entrepreneurial way. It is about real work and real projects and activities commissioned by employers so that young people leave and are ‘work ready’.
The Studio School identity and brand is what employers want and particularly with the economic development and regeneration opportunities for businesses and companies in the area. The key to our success to date is the employer input and their voice with the support of our community partners.
“We have built the momentum and are now just waiting for ‘the green light’ with our fingers crossed for an announcement on December 16th 2011. T
The Principal however is pushing this initiative no matter what as it is the right thing for young people and Thurrock.
‘Our ambition is to be the best that we can be in all that we do and to that end we are building up for a Studio School. Watch this space! ’.
