Lifeboats join police to help prevent man from jumping off QE2 bridge

THE RNLI joined forces with Essex and Kent police this morning after a man threated to jump off the QE2 bridge.

The call came at just before midnight. Essex police officers pent over 45 minutes before he came down voluntarily.

The lifeboat was called out just after midnight and was put on standby just below the bridge.

The man, who alerted police to himself by using an SOS phone on the bridge, was subsequently detained under the mental health act.
