Dockers back to winning ways as they put four past Ilford

Ryman Div One North

Tilbury 4 Ilford 1

Tilbury returned to winning ways seeing off bottom side Ilford with a good second half performance to return back in to the top five. Harry Cook returning to the side was rewarded with a second half hat-rick. Paul Vaughan made four changes from last Monday’s defeat and should have gone in front after only two minutes when a Gary Henty free kick deflected to Cook who put wide from 5 yards.

Ilford also started brightly and Rob Carter was denied by James Marrable after 12 minutes.

Tilbury took the lead on 15 when Bradley Barnes went down the left, crossed and the ball flew over Rob Budd in to the net.

Ilford again went close on 23 when Loui Hazelwood was played in. On 28 a dangerous corner from Henty was almost turned in to the net by Olatunbosun. Just before the break Rob Budd in the Ilford goal made a double save from Alex Read and Cook.

The home side flew out the blocks in the second half and caused Ilford problems. In the 53rd minute after persistent misconduct Ilford’s Ajibola Olatunbosun was eventually cautioned by the referee. On 65 Tilbury were further in front when Emiel Aiken flew down the wing, crossed and Cook slotted home. Following substitutions, Tilbury went further ahead, when on 76 a quick Henty free kick found Aiken who crossed and Cook was again on the end of it to flick home. Within a minute Cook had his hat rick when sub Aaron Matthews crossed and Cook fired home. Ilford never let up and scored the goal of the game on 79 when Loui Hazelwood hit a sweet left foot effort into the roof of the net giving Marrable no chance. In the remaining minutes Rob Budd in the Ilford goal made fine saves from Aiken and Matthews. The games last action was with centre half Paul King in attack, showing off his Keepie uppie skills.

After the game Paul Vaughan commented “Fantastic performance after last weeks Chatham game. Really pleased how we bounced back”

The result leaves Tilbury in 5th place and now travel to Harlow Town next Saturday who are in 7th place, just one point behind Tilbury.
