Whiteout Thurrock as the gritters get to grip with clearing roads

THURROCK residents woke up to a winter wonderland as a blanket of snow fell overnight.

The Thurrock Council snow plan was in action since yesterday as the gritters worked the roads.

A council spokesperson said: “The Snow Plan was implemented at 6:45am with volunteer staff now clearing footpaths in high usage locations.

Essex Police are reporting no major problems.

A spokesperson said: “No major problems have been reported so far, but those who have to drive this morning are advised to take extreme care. There are a few abandoned cars but the main routes are moving, albeit with only one track through the snow at the moment.”

The Fire Brigade have not reported any incidents.

With an eye on tomorrow, the council have issued the following statement regarding refuse technicians.

A spokesperson said::”The Thurrock road conditions are to be assessed first thing tomorrow morning (Monday) to check whether refuse and recycling can be collected safely.
