IT WAS a busy and successful weekend for the ever popular Aveley and Newham town band.
The band are recovering from a busy weekend-the Yeovil contest on Saturday and the Scaba Ringmer solo and ensemble contest on Sunday.
Yeovil adjudicator, Alan Fernie, said of the band ‘A fine band this, full of good, interesting players, and musical too.’
A spokesperson said: “Congratulations to our solo and ensemble performers at the Ringmer contest on Sunday.
“We came second in the open quartet playing Philip Sparke’s Divertimento and second in the Quintet playing Ewald’s Quintet no. 1.
“Fantastic solos from several members of the band, in the Slow Melody and Open solo sections. Ed Ashby won second place with a humourous and enjoyable rendition of Roy Newsome’s Bass in the Ballroom.”
