IT HAS been a while since Your Thurrock editor Michael Casey has run a marathon. In fact it has been 30 years since he ran three marathons in just over a year.
He was just a teenager when he ran in the first ever London Marathon in 1981 (pictured above) and then Leeds and Glasgow in 1982.
He then decided to take a little rest, especially as he was no good at it.
But now he has come out of retirement to run the Brighton Marathon on April 15th.
Michael will be raising money for St Luke’s Hospice.
Michael said: “I have been writing stories on St Luke’s for six years, so I thought it was about time that I raised some money for the hospice.
“They do such great work and deserve all the support they can get.
“All I am asking is a £1 from each person. If you give us a pound we will tweet it and that will appear on the front of www.yourthurrock.com.”
“As I am out and about in the borough every day, I will be rattling my tin every day. We appreciate these are hard times so every contribution is gratefully received.”
Asked how his training was going. Michael said: “It is going as well as any 16-stone, 50-year-old can expect! I am a bit like an overweight Duracell bunny….but I will get there.”
