There was an evening of celebration last Monday in South Ockendon as leaders and helpers celebrated the Ockendon Scout and Guide Groups’ 50th Birthday!
In 1962, Bob Fall, Roger Clay and Olive Yeldham started the Group with a Cub Pack, Scout Group and Senior Scout Group. Today, the Group has over 200 members with Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers incorporating both the Scout and Guide Movements.
To mark this milestone, the present day Scout and Guide Leaders together with the Group’s Support Helpers gathered at their Headquarters in South Ockendon for a buffet and toast to the future.
On the night, Roger and Olive Clay were honoured by being asked to be the Group’s Vice-Presidents as acknowledgment for their commitment, encouragement and enthusiasm to the Ockendon Group – to which they duly accepted their roles. Robert Clay, Group Chairman said, “We must now prepare ourselves and look forward to the next 50 years for this very special Group and look forward to celebrating our 100th Birthday!”
Various events have been planned for the young people that are part of the Ockendon Scout and Guide Group in the next few months to celebrate the Group’s 50 years.

Congratulations to Mr & Mrs Clay.
Many people love you, and will always remember you for all your devotion and hard work for the youngsters of South Ockendon over the last 50 years.
