Lib Dems ready to do battle

FOR campaign organiser, Luke Tyson and his team, last year was year zero for the coalition partners.

Luke is under no illusion that these may be testing times for the Lib-Democrats but he has plans that are very much long term.

The only recent councillor was Chafford’s Earnshaw Palmer.

Many of the candidates struggled to get over a hundred votes last year. Indeed, the Lib-Dems only polled 1203 in total.

But they are not deterred and see plenty of opportunities for the green shoots of recovery.

Commenting on the candidates announcement, Chair of Thurrock Liberal Democrats, Luke Tyson, said ‘For the first time in 20 years, Lib Dems in Thurrock will be fielding a candidate in every ward where there is an election. We have a host of great candidates that are looking forward to listening and talking to the residents of Thurrock over the next weeks.

‘We have already been working and engaging with residents for months on issues such as the Woodview housing development in Little Thurrock Blackshots, showing that Lib Dems work all year around and not just at election time.’

The Liberal Democrat candidates standing in the local elections are:

Aveley and Uplands: Paul Burton
Belhus: John Livermore
Chadwell St Mary: Tracy Rowe
Chafford and North Stifford: James Donald
Corringham and Fobbing: Kevin McNamara
East Tilbury: Luke Tyson
Grays Riverside: Kevin Mulroue
Grays Thurrock: William Jackson
Little Thurrock Blackshots: Claire Jones
Ockendon: David Shirley
Orsett: Ashley Snell
South Chafford: Matthew Orbell
Stanford East and Corringham Town: Natalie Butcher
The Homesteads: Kirsty Beard
Tilbury St. Chad’s: Ela Vine
West Thurrock and South Stifford: Matthew Parker

  1. Isnt John Livermore an Inspector for repairs on council tenents homes? What I have heard just recently that South Ockendon and Belhus tenents are not too impressed by him, he either does not turn up for an appointment or when he does he has’nt got a clue what needs to be done. Could be his mind is else where?

  2. I heard “nice guy” eddie is going to rejoin the libs, sorry I meant sdp sorry I mention the lib deems, sorry I meant ukip. Oh what the he’ll, anyone who will have him.

  3. Hi Candour, just want to point out that I am not an housing inspector for thurrock council, infact I have never worked for Thurrock Council. I am a former Belhus resident, who now lives in Aveley, who is a Community Volunteer and School Governor.

  4. Please accept my sincere apologies Mr Livermore, there is a Mr Livermore who does work for the council and I could not quiet wonder why he would be standing. I do wish you all the best in your campaign, as a Belhus resident I look forward to meeting you as we desperately need a sincere and caring councillor (which we Hope you are) to stand by his residents and fight for them as we have all been so disapointed and let down by the three Lab councillors we have at present. Come and see us and talk to us I can assure you most will listen.
