A FORMER Tory mayor, a sitting Conservative councillor, a former Conservative councillor and a host of community activists in Aveley have pledged their support for community champion, Rev Alan Field, who is standing as an independent candidate for Aveley and Uplands at the May 3rd local elections.

Rev Field has been the core of community activity for many years in Aveley. Instrumental in the growth of the community forum and a key figure in the creation of the Aveley community centre.

He has been chair of governors at Aveley primary school for ten years; saw the installation of the multi-use games area project (MUGA) on the recreation ground.

Alan has also been present at many of the green belt inquiries relevant to Aveley over the last few years.

His election pledges are based around the phrases: “I will, I won’t, I wish”

There appears to be some form of electoral pact forming in the ward. Former Conservative mayor, Colin Churchman has stood as an independent, coming second last year with 551 votes but Colin is pledging his support to Rev Field and imploring his supporters to get behind the popular reverend.

Former conservative councillor, John Cowell proudly displays Alan Field’s poster in the front window if his shop on the high street.

YT also understands that Aveley councillor, Amanda Prevost, who remains a councillor until May 3rd, is pledging her support for Alan Field.

We caught up with Alan on Aveley High Street on Easter Monday to find out a little more about his campaign.

The other candidates are:

Aveley and Uplands (Con)

Colin Adams (Con)

Paul Burton (LibDem)

Clifford Holloway (Lab)

Robert Ray (UKIP)
