IT WAS A FEAT of organisation, orchestrated by Mercedes Foy and her team and it worked as Thurrock rugby club smashed the world record for the largest scrum.
The record stood at 201 but on Saturday afternoon, 584 hookers, flankers and number eights scrummed down to blast the record wide open.
It was very well organised with an official counter, people signing in, designated colours, and a full rehearsal before an official RFU referee, put the ball in.
The scrum was uncontested but it continued to bind as it fed all the way to the back before the ref/scrum half took it cleanly.
It was just part of a fantastic community day at the Oakfield club which we will report on later.
