AN exhibition celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee has opened at the Thurrock Museum, in the Thameside complex in Orsett Road, Grays.
A wide range of souvenirs including mugs from previous coronations and printed souvenir magazines is included.
The display includes the 1953 Thurrock scene using shop adverts and an example of the Essex-wide Royalty in Essex distribution at the time to school pupils.
Jonathan Catton, Thurrock Council’s Heritage and Museum Officer said: “There is great interest in this once-in-a-lifetime happening ─ the last one was in 1897 when Queen Victoria celebrated her diamond jubilee.”
The temporary exhibition will be on display until early July when it will give way to a Thurrock Sporting exhibition linked to the London Olympics.
If anybody has sport equipment or awards relating to Thurrock, the museum will be most interested to record or use them in the display. For more information, contact Thurrock.Museum@thurrock.gov.uk
