Giving business energy!

THURROCK businesses are reaping the benefits of a regional green programme whose efforts have been recognised in a national award scheme.

The Low Carbon Business Programme helps businesses make cost savings through energy and efficiency improvements.

Funded by the East of England European Development Fund (ERDF) the programme involves partners across the region including Thurrock Council, and the Thurrock Local Enterprise Agency.

The latest Thurrock business to benefit is Grays-based Cooks Transport Engineers in Towers Road.

A grant of £40,000 from the programme helped the company install a brand new energy-efficient large paint oven facility which reduces electricity and diesel use, cuts CO2 and will make annual savings of and estimated £3,400.

Director Darren Cook said: “Low Carbon Business have been brilliant throughout the whole process.

“It is the first grant we have received and I couldn’t believe we get to keep all of the money! The grant has not only improved our energy efficiency but also allowed us to create two new jobs and win contracts with four new big customers.”

Small and medium sized businesses are at the heart of the programme which aims to help these businesses take advantage of the latest carbon reducing products and services particularly those which benefit the bottom line.
