THE LAUNCH of a Grays Loyalty Card on Saturday (26 May) proved a big hit with shoppers in the town centre .
In all 378 cards were snapped up between 10am and 4pm with shoppers queuing at times.
The cards ― valid for a year ― are being sponsored by Grays Shopping Centre, Specsavers and Thurrock Council and the following stores are taking part at present:

Curtains Babe, 5% discount
Trop Shop, 10% discount
South East Mobility, 10% off all products
Dr Han Ltd, discount on acupuncture treatments

A1 Shoes, 10% off shoe repairs
Exit Shoes, 10% discount
A&I Computers, 10% off all purchases
Sports Link, 10% discount
Select, 10% discount
Wimpy, free ice cream sundae when buying any burger or grill and chips
Supercuts, 10% off all haircuts and services
Bonmarche, 10% discount (minimum spend £20 in one transaction)
Internacionale, 10% discount
Baby Basics, 10% discount
The scheme is aimed at helping promote businesses in the town and provide an incentive to shop there.
Cllr Andy Smith, Thurrock Council’s cabinet member for regeneration, said: “These are difficult times for businesses large and small and this scheme is an excellent way of helping them.
“Encouraging economic prosperity is one of the council’s top aims and getting local people to shop local is a step in that direction. I would urge more people ― and stores ― to sign up as soon as possible.”
Many of the cards were put to use quickly. In Grays Shopping Centre alone, Internacionale had 30 card presentations, the Wimpy two, Exit Shoes 17, and Select Fashion 40.
