THE MAYOR of Thurrock has written to 44 groups across the borough congratulating and thanking them for their work celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
In his letter, Cllr Yash Gupta says: “I attended six of these parties and was delighted at how much community spirit there was considering the weather; so many people turned out and offered their neighbourly support either with food, music, gazebos, front gardens, the list is endless.”
He adds: “All of the parties across Thurrock were organised by volunteers and I am aware of how much of your time it took to ensure your street had a great celebration, in a safe environment; liaising with the Council for the application pack, risk assessments, road closures, signs etc, this all took many hours of your time.
“Many commented on how nice it was to meet neighbours; with so many people being at work all day and leading busy lives this doesn’t happen often enough and this is something that I am keen to encourage through various events within my year as Mayor.”
