Labour police boss candidate hits out at cuts to horse section

Val Morris-Cook, Labour’s Police and Crime Commissioner candidate for Essex responding to the news that Essex Police are proposing cutting their mounted section, said:

“The Government promised that the cuts wouldn’t hit front line services, yet today’s announcement makes clear that it is about saving money, it is the mounted police unit or even more police officers that would have to go.

“Essex Police are being forced to make difficult decisions as a direct result of Tory-led Government cuts to Police Budgets which will mean 325 fewer Officers in Essex, Police stations open less and no 24 hour Police
Stations anywhere in the county. This is at a time when the Government is wasting £100m on elected Police and Crime Commissioners, money Labour believe would be better spent on frontline Policing.

“We did not support the Tory-led Government’s policy of Police and Crime Commissioners but we are standing to fight the damage being done to policing by the Tories and do what we can to support the police in the
fight against crime.”

Completely agree on this point. I would rather the money be spent on more officers rather than more elections but I certainly wouldn’t trust Labour to keep us safe considering the massive increase in crime in many parts of the UK under their leadership, particularly in London.

  2. What old 4 jobs (who is only a wannabe police boss by the way) doesn’t do is explain why we need a mounted police division, when most other forces don’t have them?

  3. maybe if the previous Labour administration had not wasted millions whilst they were the elected party then maybe these cuts would not be required, or if Blair had not decided to take us into an illegal war which has cost the country Billions, and is still doing so then maybe, just maybe I would take anything that the current crop of Labour hypocrites say as genuine.

Maybe if Essex Police looked at their management structure and released some of the more expensive officers that sit in their ivory towers and put that money to the ground troops we would be in a better situation.

  4. How can she give 100% to being a councillor and a portfolio holder and holding down a full time job while campaigning to be an elected Police Commissioner?

Perhaps she should do the decent thing and resign as a councillor so someone who can give 100% can do the job instead?
