Youngsters freewheel to BikeIt project

SUSTRANS ‘Bike It’ project welcomed school children and their parents/carers to their Learn2Cycle session. The event was run in partnership with Travel Thurrock and the Lakeside Cluster holiday program.

Fifteen children came to West Thurrock Primary school and learned how to ride a bike without stabilisers whilst others improved their cycling skills with some fun and games.

Katie van Dop who runs the ‘Bike It’ project said “We want to continue encouraging as many residents of all age to enjoy cycling and be safe and thanks to the Thurrock council’s successful bid, we have now been able to secure more ‘Bike It’ projects and activities for another three years”

Sustrans ‘Bike It’ has been active in Thurrock since 2008. The project to date has helped more than five hundred residents of all ages to learn to cycle or improve their cycling skills. Earlier in the year Katie had one of her most successful days as twenty two children were taught to cycle in one go!
