THURROCK dancer, Vicky Lardner fulfilled the dream of a lifetime as she pirouetted with prima ballerina Darcy Bussell in the amazing closing ceremony of the Olympics.
Principal of Martell School of Dance, Vicky, spent months rehearsing for her special moment which came just before midnight.
Vicky said: “I was so so nervous but it was the chance and dance of a lifetime.
“The atmosphere was amazing, the colours, the music. I couldn’t believe I was just feet away from watching Queen and Jessie J before we came on.”
I was so pleased that we all danced so well. Afterwards, Darcy Bussell signed my ballet shoes.
“Injury at college prevented me from maximising my potential but for me, the closing ceremony gave me my personal gold medal.”
Thurrock residents were in the audience including YourThurrock reporters, Mike Jones and Lisa Chapman.
Mike said: “An amazing spectacle that got better and better. My personal highlight was Elbow playing whilst all the competitors came in. Heroes every one of them.
“We have to be so proud as a nation to have delivered such an Olympics and done it all with a smile on our faces.”
