Royal seal of approval for Oaktree youth club

THE creative talent of the children who attend Oaktree’s Junior Youth Club was fully rewarded when they received a letter from The Queen in response to their artistic achievement and well wishes.

The children were so inspired and excited by all the street parties and events to commemorate The Queen’s sixty year reign, they decided to mark their own tribute by decorating a large board with all things Royal, from kings, queens, corgis and British flags.

With the help and guidance of Oaktree Resource Centre Workers, they sent a photograph of their board along with individual letters to Her Majesty but were not expecting to get a response.

It therefore came as a huge surprise when they received a reply for the Queen’s Lady-in-Waiting thanking the children for all their kind wishes.

Cllr Oliver Gerrish, Portfolio Holder for Education and Children’s Social Care at Thurrock Council attended a small ceremony with the children and everyone involved to cut the ribbon and unveil the framed letter which is now displayed in the main corridor of the Centre.

Cllr Gerrish said: “I am very pleased to be here on this very special occasion and meet all the children in unveiling this wonderful acknowledgment of their creativity. I am delighted that this letter has been given pride of place in the Centre for everyone to enjoy what they have achieved”

As a reward for their work, each child received a framed copy of Her Majesty’s letter and a photograph of the Jubilee art board.
