Football: Underwhelming Grays drop another two points at home

Ryman Div One North

Grays Ath 2 v 2 Soham Town Rangers

GRAYS ATH put in another disappointing performance as they clung onto a solitary point at home to Soham Town Rangers.

Hakan had rung the changes after the Maidstone mauling with Luke Marshall and Joe Sweeney dropped to the bench.

Soham grabbed the league after three minutes when a superb solo effort by Jack Paxman put the Cambridgeshire team in the lead.

Danny Bunce equalised with a penalty five minutes later after Kenny Beaney was fouled in the box

Carlos wove his magic and in the 16th minute had a fair shout for a penalty when he was bundled over in the box.

However Grays continued to look fragile and for every good move, there was a mistake such as the one by Ryan Kirby after 25 minutes which forced a great save out of keeper Kamarusi.

Grays were struggling to carve a chance. A Danny Bunce header at the far post followed by a shot that skimmed past the goal.

Grays woes continued as Soham scored in the 48th minute when an unmarked Frank Atangana’s glancing header slipped into the net.

Danny Bunce was grabbing his chance to play in the right position and produced a cracking shot that the keeper did well to turn over the bar.

And Bunn should have scored with his own glancing header but it was wonderfully tipped around the post. The rub was not going Grays way. They also had a fair shout for a penalty.

However, they got back into the game in the 55th minute when Kenny Beaney sneaked in at the far post to not from close range.

At this point, Soham were being over-run and Grays sensed their moment. But at the other end, Kamarusi was still getting the team out of bother with another magnificent save at full stretch.

Grays lost their rhythm again and far too many passes were going astray and the key problem was an inability to keep close control of the ball.

Joe Sweeney was once again playing like a man who could be dropped any second.

Grays had their chances but missed some gilt edged chances especially Jamie Richards who from three yards out simply nodded it to the keeper.

Junior Baker also produced a great header from close range but the keeper Daniel Bircham produced a magnificent save.
