Performers required for TOPS show

AFTER successful auditions, Thurrock Operatic Society (TOPS) are still looking for actors, singers and dancers to take part in their upcoming production of The King & I.

The Rogers & Hammerstein classic, tells the story of an English school teacher brought to Siam in the 1860’s, to teach the King’s children the modern Western ways. Rehearsals are underway for the production will be staged in March 2013 at the Thameside Theatre in Grays, yet there are some key parts which need to be filled.

Amongst the Principle characters, people to play Tuptim, a slave brought from Burma to be one of the King’s junior wives and Lun Tha, a Burmese scholar, in love with Tuptim, are required as are male chorus members, who will play various Priests, Guards & Guests.

After a successful run with Oliver! earlier this year, TOPS are also seeking more children to take part. “This wonderfully moving and colourful musical is a gem in the Rodgers and Hammerstein catalogue, full of opulence and sentiment and to make it work the children need to come in all shapes, sizes and age” explains show director Ann Sullivan.

This is a great opportunity for people wanting to have a go at musical theatre; ideal for youngsters wanting to get on stage. Getting involved is simple with a full information pack available from the group’s website www.topsonstage.co.uk If you can’t access the internet then you can call the group on (01375) 371722.
