THE Civic Hall in Grays was transformed into a ballroom of glamour, spectacle and nostalgia for the fifth ‘All Our Yesteryears’ event on Friday 26 October. This year’s event, which celebrated the forties and fifties, aimed to raise the profile of sheltered housing and was well attended by residents and the general public.

Jeff Short Swing Band played all the memorable tunes from the golden age of musicals, from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, High Society, Oliver as well as Glen Miller and Sinatra classics.

Iconic images of Queen Elizabeth, double decker buses and London 2012 decorated the stage celebrating the Queen’s Coronation in 1952 and the previous Olympic Games in 1948.

Deputy Mayor of Thurrock, Cllr Tony Fish attended the event and gave the introductory speech thanking all the volunteers for all their efforts including the volunteers at Seabrooke Rise for supplying all the catering and their youth group who took usher duties and waited the tables.
