Letter from Helmand province touches hearts…..

A SERVING soldier in Helmand province has written to the Mayor of Thurrock, cllr Yash Gupta thanking him for gifts and presents through the Shoebox appeal system.

Operation Shoe Box is an organisation that encourages people to fill shoe boxes with a range of useful and everyday items that mean a great deal to the troops, some of whom have been away for months and are missing basic items that people in the UK take for granted.

Shoppers were being asked to fill an empty shoe box with everyday items such as deodorant, sweets, razors and wet wipes. The boxes were then sent to the UK’s service men and women around the globe including Afghanistan.

L/Cpl Brown in the 102 Bn regiment in Afghanistan wrote to cllr Gupta..

He said: “Many thanks for your thoughtful welfare boxes which arrived this week out here in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. It has been shared amongst the troops and is much appreciated.
