Football: Tilbury back on track and all for Mickey Moon

Ryman Div One North

Tilbury 2 v 1 Needham Market Att 110

TILBURY bounced back with a valuable 3 points over last seasons play off finalists Needham Market. The game was proceeded by a one minute silence for supporter Micky Moon who recently passed away.

Manager Paul Vaughan made five changes following last weeks disappointing performance at Cheshunt, including debuts to Jimmy Cook and Sam Cutler. The game started at a fast and furious pace with little goal action on a difficult pitch. On 26 Tilbury had the first effort of the afternoon when an Aaron Waters cross was met by Emiel Aiken who’s header was saved by Johnson. Within 2 minutes Jacobs crossed for Wraight, but again was well saved. Sam Cutler in the centre of the park was controlling a packed midfield. Waters on the half hour floated a dangerous free-kick that was tipped over. The game centred around two major incidents, with the first one falling on 32. Aaron Waters and Jordan Pavett went in for a strong tackle with Waters coming off worse and the assistant flagging for free kick to Needham, the referee sent Pavett off for violent conduct. This did not deter the visitors and Rhys Barber shot went just over before the break.

The game came to life on 50 when the excellent Sam Cutler struck from just over 20 yards, the ball hit the underside of the bar and in to the hands of Louis Johnson. With Tilbury claiming the goal, the assistant ran 10 yards and flagged that the ball crossed the line to the delight of the Tilbury support. Following consultation with the referee and his assistant, the goal was awarded. This did not please the visiting support and players. Needham kept pushing despite the one player disadvantage and Barber fired over on the hour. Tilbury went further in front on 63 when Aaron Water’s free kick was diverted in to his own net by the unlucky Duane Wright. On 70 James Marrable had to be at his best when he saved low. Needham got a goal back on 74 when a Bloomfield corner was headed in the right end this time by Wright. Needham continued to push for an equaliser giving Tilbury the opportunity on the counter attack but neither keeper was tested as Tilbury secured the 2-1 victory.

The result leaves Tilbury in 8th place

After the game Paul Vaughan commented. Some pleasing performances after last week’s defeat. Needham are a good side and will be in the mix at the end of the season.

Tilbury are home again next Saturday when they welcome local rivals Aveley to Chadfields 3.00pm kick off.
