Selecter star Pauline to star at Grays library

THERE’S a chance to mix music and books at Grays Library on Wednesday, 6 March evening.

As part of Essex Book Week, Pauline Black, the singer and actress who gained fame as lead singer of seminal 2-tone band The Selecter will be on hand to talk about herself and her autobiography.

Black by Design – A 2-Tone Memoir highlights Pauline’s dual heritage and how it fuelled her desire to mix things up musically, showcased in the band’s successful album Too Much Pressure.

At the event she illuminates her experience as a British mixed-race woman who yearns to know her origins and answer the lifelong question – who made me?

Born in Romford, her mother was an Anglo-Jewish teenage mother and her father a Nigerian.

She was unaware of her Jewish heritage until the age of 42 when she traced her birth mother.

The event is from 7:30pm to 9:15pm. Tickets are £5 (£4 concessions) and can be booked by calling Grays Library on 01375 413976.
