Football: Doubles all round as Blues topple Dockers

Ryman Div One North

Grays Athletic 4 v 2 Tilbury

TWO FROM Junior Baker and two from Jeff Hammond saw Grays Athletic defeat the Dockers and move to within three points of the top of the league.

But the brave Dockers never gave up and twice came from a goal behind to level the match.

But this is a vintage Grays Athletic in 2013 and although they were pegged back twice, they blew away Tilbury.

This was the third game in a row that Grays Athletic have scored four. They now sit just three points behind long time leaders, Maldon and Tiptree, with three games in hand.

Junior Baker scored the first goal with a tap in from a corner in the 39th minute.

However, Tilbury’s Tony Jacobs scored from close range just four minutes later.

Baker has been imperious all year, so it was no surprise that he smashed home his second in the 56th minute.

But the Dockers, who have had a difficult season, do not lie down and so it was no surprise that Aaron Waters put away a penalty on the hour.

But Grays have won eight in a row and with that brings a great amount of confidence, especially when goals can come from anywhere.

This time it was striker Jeff Hammond who put two away in the 77th and 79th minutes.

Grays now travel to Soham on Saturday, knowing they could go to the top of the league.

  1. “It was no surprise that Aron Waters scored from a pen”. What??

It was a HUGE surprise they got a pen! He missed his kick, fell over and the ref gave a pen! Laughable!!

  2. Fair play to the Tilbs, they put up a decent performance and their fans can not be upset at their effort. Having said that we are looking good now and although not at our best we managed to raise our game to another level when we needed it!
    Come on Grays Ath!

  3. Was impressed with Tilbury as they had nothing to play for but stopping GAFC push for the title and certainly for most of game pushed GAFC but
GAFC showed their class by raising their game at the crucial times of the match .

Just shows how for the GAFC players are as looked the fresher even having played 3 games more then tilbury in the week building up to game

GAFC given themselves a great chance of title now but anything can happen in next 10 games
