A MAN has today (June 1) been charged with causing death by careless driving.
Kegan Gates, age 21 of Victoria Road, Stanford le Hope has been bailed to appear at Magistrates Court in Basildon on June 20. This follows the police investigation by the Serious Collision Investigation unit into the fatal crash and death of 22 year old Sophie Lennox.
The crash involved three cars on the A1089 slip road at the junction with the A13 near Orsett on Saturday, December 15, 2012.
A BMW being driven by Kegan Gates collided with a VW Golf and then struck another car. The Golf left the road, struck a lamp post and rolled down a steep embankment. The driver of the Golf, a 21 year old man from Grays received serious injuries, a three year old child was treated and released, but sadly Sophie Lennox from Edmonton in north London, the front seat passenger, died at the scene.
