Free electrical waste collections

FROM Monday (17 June) to 21 June there will be free Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) recycling collections across the borough.

For the first time Thurrock will be sending out a caged vehicle to various sites to collect unwanted small electrical items, and people are being asked to bring old hairdryers, kettles, electric blankets, fans or small items along to be disposed of properly.

If you have large white goods that need collecting there are also a limited number of free white goods bulky collections – on Monday 17 and Wednesday 19 June – call 01375 366071 to book a collection date and time.

The free collections will be booked on a first come, first served basis and when once the free spaces are booked, residents will be offered the usual paid-for collection.

Cllr Victoria Holloway, portfolio holder for environment. said: “This is a brilliant offer to our residents, for the first time we are taking our free collection service to lots of different areas across the borough and we hope residents will bring along their unwanted electrical items.”

On Monday (17 June) the caged vans will be at South Ockendon’s Derry Avenue car park (behind sorting office) from 9.30am to 10.30am; the Essex Sports Ground, Purfleet Road, 11.30am to 12.30pm; and Saladin Drive car park, Purfleet, between 2pm and 3pm.

Tuesday: Recreation Ground/Cricket Club, North Stifford, 9.30am to 10.30pm; Parker Road car park, West Thurrock, 11.30am to 12.30pm; and Sainsbury’s car park, Chafford Hundred, 2pm to 3pm.

Wednesday: Blackshots Recreation Ground car park, Grays, 9.30am to 10.30am; the Housing Office/Library, Brentwood Road, Chadwell St Mary, 11.30am to 12.30pm; and the Calcutta Road car park, Tilbury, 2pm to 3pm.

Thursday: Bata Memorial car park, East Tilbury, 9.30am to 10.30am; King Street car park, Stanford-le-Hope, 11.30am to 12.30pm; and Gifford Cross car park, Gifford Cross Road, Corringham, 2pm to 3pm.

Friday: the Village Hall car park Church Road, Bulphan from 9.30am to 10.30am; the Recreation Ground, Orsett Road, Horndon-on-the-Hill, 11.30 to 12.30pm; and the Cricket Club/Recreation Ground, School Lane, Orsett, 2pm to 3pm.

  2. Hi there, we have a washing machine that needs to be disposed of, would this be possible? We live in Purfleet.
