Man in hospital after explosion in chemical factory in West Thurrock

A MAN WAS admitted to hospital after an explosion in a chemical factory in West Thurrock.

The incident occurred at just after 9.30 am on Sunday July 7th in a factory in Stoneness Road.

The explosion was heard in the West Thurrock and Purfleet area.

The emergency services cordoned off the area.

A 54-year-old man from Dagenham was taken to hospital with minor breathing difficulties.

Assistant Divisional Officer Mark Turnbull said: “There had been an explosion which caused a chemical release.

Although one man suffered the effects of inhalation the chemical there was no risk to anyone else in the surrounding area.

“Firefighters in breathing apparatus entered the building, ensured that the chemical supply was isolated and made the building safe. One man was assisted to safety by the crews

“Crews did an excellent job and it is thanks to them that this incident was resolved as quickly as it was.”
